Primeira Revelação e Dúvida

— Jessie? Querida... Acorda!

— Hum... Que horas são?

— 08:15. Levanta-te. Cristo.

— Deixa-me em paz!

Jillian estava impaciente. A Jessica tem este defeito chato. Nunca acorda a tempo e está sempre atrasada. Ela é uma excelente profissional, mas é uma terrível pontual. – Jillian conclui.

— Faz o que quiseres. Eu estou fora. Se queres chegar tarde no primeiro dia de trabalho, está fixe para mim. Eu estou-te a avisar. Uma coisa que a Brown não tolera são pessoas que não são pontuais.

A Jessie começou a levantar-se. Quando a Jillian chama as pessoas pelos seus apelidos é porque ela está mesmo irritada e zangada.

— Estou a ir. Estou a ir Reed. Adeus.

— Eu deixei o teu passe na cozinha, se quiseres ir lá ter. Adeus.

A Jillian tem um carro muito bom, mas ainda não está em DC. Por causa disso ela tem que ir para o trabalho de autocarro. Enquanto ela estava nele telefonou ao Matt.

— Olá Matt. É a Jillian. Eu estou a caminho. Eu só telefonei para saber quem vai estar aí.

— Bom dia Jill. Bem, vai estar muita gente. Eu não posso dizer-te nomes, mas há pessoas do Smithsonian e do FBI e alguns jornalistas.

— Jornalistas? Eu não fiz um discurso!

Ambos riram por segundos. Todos sabem o que os repórteres podem ser. Eles não entendem e não se importam, de todo, o que estamos a dizer, mas, de qualquer forma, eles são capazes de misturar as nossas palavras e transformá-las em algo que é totalmente diferente do que dissemos. E jornalistas científicos não são diferentes.

— Vejo-te aí. Até já.

— Não estavas a brincar quando dissestes que há um grande número de pessoas.

— Não, eu não estava! Pronta?

— Claro. Vamos.

Ela entrou num auditório grande e largo. Todas as pessoas estavam totalmente focadas nela, prontas para comentar as suas escolhas. Esta equipa vai ser o começo de uma grande parceria. O FBI está cansado de casos não resolvidos que envolvem esqueletos e restos mortais e eles precisavam de respostas e uma equipa que seja capaz de ler e interpretar restos. E eles, como o SI, não podem esperar para ouvir quem é que vai ser essa equipa pioneira.

A Jill começou:

— Bom dia a todos. Vamos ao que interessa. – Fez uma pausa. — Como todos sabem, eu estava encarregue de escolher uma equipa de especialistas para trabalhar com o FBI. Primeiro de tudo eu quero agradecer às pessoas que me escolheram para esta equipa maravilhosa.

— Esta equipa vai ter quantas pessoas? – Começou um repórter careca.

— Esta equipa vai ter sete pessoas, incluindo eu. Então, a primeira sou eu. Eu sou uma antropóloga forense e eu sou a chefe da equipa.

— Sim. Sim. O resto da equipa sabe que são os escolhidos? - Continuou o mesmo.

— Sim. Eles foram previamente contactados por mim. – Prevendo estas questões, ela continuou. — Eles chegam todos amanhã, quinta-feira.

— Por favor revele os nomes. – Este foi um impaciente Greg Watson.

— Sim. A segunda é Emily Brooke. Ela é especialista em reconstrução craniofacial e pode gerar hologramas usando o seu programa de gráficos 3D. Bem, ela é uma artista forense. Eu trabalhei com ela algumas vezes e li estudos feitos por ela. Ela é a melhor no que faz. Alguma questão?

— Podes falar em Português? – Desta vez foi o Matt. Ele tinha um rosto que mostrou que ele não entendeu uma palavra.

— Ela ajuda a determinar como é que as vítimas eram antes da morte, de modo que podemos processar a sua identidade e simular vários cenários virtuais de um crime para ajudar a determinar a causa da morte. Dessa forma, ela é uma vantagem. Entendido? – Todos concordaram. — Outro é Justin Parker. Ele é um patologista de renome. Ele vai ajudar porque, apesar de trabalharmos com esqueletos, eles vêm com tecido e ligamentos e esse tipo de coisas e ele analisa isso. – Ela simplificou.

— Doc, você conhece-o? – Outro jornalista.

— Sim, muito bem. Nós trabalhamos num caso difícil juntos. Ele impressionou-me; o quarto é outro FA para me ajudar. Geralmente, ele e eu, trabalhamos em conjunto. Ele tem uma licenciatura em ciências forenses, então eu sei que ele é capaz. O seu nome é Diego Marquez. – Jillian fez uma pequena pausa e depois continuou. — Agora precisámos de uma entomologista e Olivia Jones é a certa. Ela não é apenas uma das melhores em entomologia, mas é também uma especialista em esporos e minerais portanto ela tem qualidades enormes. Eu trabalhei com ela em Maluku; o sexto é Jonathan Harris. Ele é um arqueólogo forense. Eu acho que todos nós sabemos o que é. – Depois de a audiência ter concordado ela continuou. — Eu também trabalhei com ele nas Ilhas Molucas; a última é uma psicóloga forense, psicanalista e profiler e é uma chave muito importante nesta equipa. O seu nome é Valerie Clark. Devo dizer que a conheço muito bem e vocês também. Ela termina a equipa.

Enquanto tudo isto estava a acontecer a Jessica estava no seu trabalho. Ela chegou e outro funcionário estava encarregue de a dar a conhecer os seus pacientes, mas de repente a Chloe disse que ia fazer isso.

— Dr. Moore, nós tentamos usar técnicas diferentes para tratar diferentes problemas. As técnicas mais utilizadas por nós são direcionadas para os músculos, esqueleto e órgãos. Portanto, as áreas que lidamos com mais frequência são ortopédica, tegumentar, geriátrica e cardiovascular /pulmonar. Nós fazemos um pouco de todas as áreas, mas nós vamos mais fundo com estas quatro. É especializada em fisioterapia desportiva, mas também tem conhecimento nestas, correto?

— Sim. Estudei todos, mas apostei mais no desporto. Eu tenho uma paixão por isso.

— Consigo ver que sim. Este paciente aqui era um atleta impressionante, mas ele teve um acidente sério com um amigo. – Ela apontou para um paciente que estava numa sessão de terapia. — Ele estava no banco do passageiro e foi projetado. O seu amigo não ficou ferido. Temos que ter cuidado com as pessoas em quem confiamos.

— Bem, Doutora, eu tenho a certeza que o amigo não bateu com o carro de propósito. Estas coisas acontecem. Por que você diz tais coisas?

A Jessica suspeitou que a Chloe estava a falar da Jillian. Mas ela não podia entender porquê e se era realmente isso.

— Dr. Chloe desculpe por esta questão, mas essas coisas sobre a confiança que disse tem algo a ver com o facto de eu conhecer a Jillian?

Brown estava surpreendida pelo facto de a Jessica chegar lá tão depressa e mais surpresa com o facto de ela ter a coragem de perguntar. Então, ela decidiu abrir o jogo e disse:

— Talvez.

— Talvez? Por que está a falar assim? Espere um segundo. Podemos falar sobre isso amanhã? Eu tenho que começar a trabalhar.

— Acho que podemos. Há um restaurante fantástico nesta rua. Você não trabalha na parte da manhã, certo?

— Sim, eu perguntei se podia. É a apresentação da equipa da Jillian! Eu quero estar lá.

— Claro. O nome do restaurante é Restaurante Giulio Ambrosia.

— Muito bem. Vejo-a lá amanhã às 13:30.

Ela ficou a pensar, o dia todo, no aviso estranho e disfarçado enviado pela Chloe. Foi uma conversa muito estranha. O que ela quis dizer? Pensa Jessica, pensa e tenta entender onde ela queria ir com a conversa. A Jessie odeia quando alguém tenta colocar dúvidas sobre a sua melhor amiga e odeia ainda mais quando eles o conseguem fazer. A Jillian pertence a um mundo duro e fez o possível e o impossível para ser uma parte dele, mas mesmo com tudo isso para lidar deu o melhor de si e o melhor que ela podia-me dar. É injusto e dói-me pensar que é possível duvidar ela. Eu não posso fazer isso. – Ela concluiu.

First Revelation and Doubt

— Jessie? Sweetie… Wake up!

— Hum… What time is it?

— 08:15 a.m. Get up. Christ.

— Leave me alone!

Jillian was impatient. Jessica has this annoying defect. Never wakes up in time and is always late. She is an excellent professional but a terrible timely. – Jillian concludes.

— Do whatever you want. I’m out. If you want to be late right on the first day of work, it’s fine to me. I’m warning you. One thing that Brown doesn’t tolerate is not punctual people.

Jessie started to get up. When Jillian calls people by their surnames is because she is really mad and annoyed.

— I’m going. I’m going Reed. Bye.

— I left your pass in the kitchen if you want to go there. Bye.

Jillian has a really nice car but it isn’t in DC yet. Because of that she has to go to work by bus. While she was in it she called Matt.

— Hi Matt. It’s Jillian. I’m on my way. I just called you to know who is going to be in there.

— Good morning Jill. Well, there is going to be a lot of people. I can’t say you names but there are people of the Smithsonian and the FBI and some reporters.

— Reporters? I didn’t make a speech!

Both laughed for long seconds. Everybody knows what reports can be. They don’t understand and don’t care at all what the hell we are saying, but, anyway, they are capable of mixing our words and transform them into something that is totally different of what we said. And science reports aren’t different.

— See you there. Bye.

— You weren’t kidding when you said there are a big number of people.

— No, I wasn’t! Ready?

— Of course. Let’s go.

She entered a big and wide auditorium. All the people there were totally focused in her and ready to comment her choices. This team is going to be a start for a great partnership. FBI is tired of unsolved cases which involve skeletons and body remains and they needed answers and a team who is capable of read and interprets remains. And they, as the SI, can’t wait to hear who is going to be that pioneer team.

Jill started:

— Good morning everybody. Let’s go to business. – Made a break. — As you all know I was in charge of picking a team of experts to work with the FBI. First of all I want to thank the people who chose me to this marvelous team.

— How many people will this team have? – Started a bold report.

— This team is going to have seven persons including me. So, the first one is me. I’m a forensic anthropologist and I’m the head of the team.

— Yes. Yes. Do the rest of the people know that they are the chosen ones? – Continued the same report.

— Yes. They were previously contacted by me. – Forecasting this question she continued. — They arrive all tomorrow, Thursday.

— Please reveal the names. – This was one impatient Greg Watson.

— Yes. The second one is Emily Brooke. She is an expert in craniofacial reconstruction and can generate holograms using her 3D graphics program. Well, she is a forensic artist. I worked with her a couple times and read studies made by her. She is the best in what she does. Any question?

— Can you please talk in English? – This time was Matt. He had a face that showed he didn’t understand a word.

— She helps to determine what the victims looked like before death so that way we can process their identity and simulate various virtual scenarios of a crime to help determine cause of death. That way she is an advantage. Understood? – Everybody nodded. — Another one is Justin Parker. He is one renowned pathologist. He will help because although we work with skeletons, they come with tissue and ligaments and that kind of things and he analyzes that. – She simplified.

— Doc, do you know him? – Another report.

— Yes, very well. We worked in a tough case together. He impressed me; the 4^th is another FA to help me. We usually work together. He has a degree in forensic sciences so I know he is capable. His name is Diego Marquez. – Jillian made a small break and then continued. — Now, we need an entomologist and Olivia Jones is the right one. She is not only one of the bests in entomology but she also is an expert on spores and minerals so she has huge qualities. I worked with her in Maluku; the 6^th is Jonathan Harris. He is a forensic archaeologist. I think we all know what it is. – After the audience having agreed she kept going. — I worked with him in Maluku Islands as well; the last one is a forensic psychologist, psychoanalyst and a profiler and a very important key for this team. Her name is Valerie Clark. I must say I know her very well. She finishes the team.

While all of this was happening Jessica was in her work. She arrived and another employee was in charge of introduced her, her patients but over sudden Chloe said that herself was going to do it.

— Dr. Moore, we try to use different techniques to treat different problems. The techniques more used by us are directed to the muscles, skeleton and organs. Therefore, the areas we deal more often are orthopedic, integumentary, geriatric and cardiovascular/ pulmonary. We do a little bit of all areas but we go deeper with this four. You are specialize in sports physiotherapy but you also have knowledge in this, correct?

— Yes. I studied all of them but I bet more on sports. I have a passion for sport.

— I can see that. This patient over here was an awesome athlete but he had a severe accident with one friend. – She pointed to a patient who was in a therapy session. — He was in the passenger seat and was projected. His friend wasn’t injured. We have to be careful with the people we trust.

— Well, Dr. I am sure his friend didn’t crash the car on purpose. These things happen. Why do you say such things?

Jessica suspected that Dr. Chloe was talking about Jillian. But she couldn’t understand why and if it was really that.

— Dr. Chloe, I am sorry for this question but those things about trust you just said have something to do with the fact that I know Jillian?

Brown was surprised by the fact Jessica got there so quickly and more surprised by the fact that she had the courage to ask. So, she decided to open the game.

— Maybe.

— Maybe? Why are you talking this way? Wait a second. Can we talk about this tomorrow? I have to start working.

— I think we can. There is an awesome restaurant on this street. You don’t work in the morning, right?

— Yes I asked you. Is the presentation of Jillian’s team! I want to be there.

— Sure. The restaurant’s name is Julio Ambrosia’s Restaurant.

— Nice. See you there tomorrow at 01:30 p.m.

She kept thinking all day on the awkward and disguised warning sent by Chloe. It was a really strange conversation. What she meant? Think Jessica, think and try to understand what she pretended to go with that chat. Jessie hates when someone tries to put her doubts about her best friend and hates even more when they do just that. Jillian belongs to a tough world and did the possible and the impossible to be a part of him but even with all of that to deal she gave the best of her and the best she could give to me. It’s unfair and hurts me to think that is possible to doubt her. I can’t do it. – She concluded.
