CIA, which stands for Central Intelligence Agency (Fig. 1), is a one of the most important intelligence-gathering agencies of the US federal governmental that reports to the Director of National Intelligence. The CIA is responsible for investigating and providing national security information to the senators of that country. Its an independent agency.
The motto "And You Shall Know The Truth And The Truth Shall Make You Free".
It was created on September 18th 1947. It is the successor to the Agency of Strategic Services (OSS), formed during the Second World War to coordinate espionage activities between the branches of the Armed Forces of the United States.
CIA's headquarters is placed in George Bush Center for Intelligence, Langley, Fairfax County, Virginia, US. (Fig. 2)
Both the number of employers and budget are classified.
The Director of the CIA is John O. Brennan (Fig. 3) who was nominated in March 8th 2013 and the Deputy Director is Michael Morell.
They are US' first line of defense. It accomplishes what others cannot and goes where other cannot.
They carry out their mission by:
  1. Collecting information that reveals the plans, intentions and capabilities of their adversaries and provides the basis for decision and action.
  2. Producing timely analysis that provides insight, warning and opportunity to the President and decision makers charged with protecting and advancing America’s interests.
  3. Conducting covert action at the direction of the President to preempt threats or achieve US policy objectives.
Critics:

The CIA has been criticized by her failures in security and counterintelligence, failures in "intelligence analysis, human rights concerns, external investigations and document releases, influencing public opinion and law enforcement, drug trafficking, and lying to Congress".  It is also considered one of the best intelligence agencies.

Their main core values are:
  • Service. It puts the Country first and Agency before self. Quiet patriotism is their hallmark. They are dedicated to the mission, and they pride themselves on their extraordinary responsiveness to the needs of their customers.
  • Integrity. They uphold the highest standards of conduct. They seek and speak the truth—to their colleagues and to their customers. They honor those Agency officers who have come before them and they honor the colleagues with whom they work today.
  • Excellence. They hold themselves—and each other—to the highest standards. They embrace personal accountability. They reflect on their performance and learn from that reflection.
